Rigel woke back up with a start. The house was familiar, like the prison shack he and his group had been forced to stay the night before. It was daytime outside, but he hadn't left the abandoned village. His mind whirled with the possibilities of what this meant. He wasn't restrained and no guards were around, so it wasn't likely that he was being held prisoner. It was possible that his fight with Concetta had gone so well that the accusing group had left the village entirely. Rigel needed to find out what had happened the day before, and stood up to do so. The moment he did, all warmth fled his face, his eyes crossed and he was unconscious again before his body hit the floor.
The next time Rigel awoke, he was in the same spot, only he wasn't alone. It was late afternoon from the light outside. Rigel again tried to sit up, but was gently pushed back down by Sakeith, closing a book he'd been idly reading by Rigel's bed. "Easy there," he said, just as gently as his hand. Rigel calmed himself, taking note of the man's advice. He seemed to anticipate the pirate's questions. "We're still here, Murray and Meyye are safe too, I can go get them if you promise not to move too much while I'm gone."
Rigel tried to verbally agree, but when he made an effort to speak, only a cracking sound came out, uncomfortable and dry in his throat. He decided to just nod his head instead. Sakeith left the shack, hollering into the city outside. The pirate couldn't see much, trying to gauge how he felt. His body was deeply sore, like an earthquake without end. Nothing felt bloody, but he felt dried out and exhausted. Murray and Meyye burst into the shack ahead of Sakeith, elated to learn he was awake. They seemed to want to hug him but knew better, restraining themselves on either side of his bed.
"Bet you guys thought I'd lose, didn't you?" he joked through the pain, forcing words through his aching throat. It was much a taunt as it was a genuine question.
Sakeith took it upon himself to explain. "You did lose. Concetta got back to her feet after you fell." That wasn't the answer Rigel had expected. His gamble had totally failed. Not in any scenario did he expect his technique to completely fail at bringing the woman down. It was so careless and damning an end to their fight that he couldn't consider it. "But, she found me- er, us innocent."
"You saved us, even if you did lose," Meyye explained with a cheeky smirk. "We've just been hiding out from Rain with them for the past few days."
"Days? Plural?" Rigel asked, coughing after the question. Expressing any surprise was too much for him to do. "How long have I been out."
"Long enough for me to fix every boat in the docks," Murray said. "They're super nice! You should meet them."
"Maybe when I can walk again," Rigel said. The feeling in his voice was becoming more normal. "I'm sorry you had to see me fight again." The little boy had been dragged into a few scenes of carnage since meeting Rigel, each of them a direct result of his choices and actions.
"Some ships fight," he simply replied. "I don't like it but, you're brave, and you did it for people you like. Autumn was definitely right about you." Despite the boy's words, Rigel couldn't easily shake the feeling of failure.

The four talked more casually about what Rigel had missed during his long sleep, about how they'd found him slumped on the floor after his first time waking up and them trying to get his bandages changed while he slept. Murray talked about the boats he'd been fixing and bringing back up to shape, even working with some of Concetta's group to test them out and secure the right supplies and tools to repair them properly. Sakeith talked about a long conversation with Concetta, which didn't exactly quell her anger, but found an armistice between them. Meyye was a bit more reserved.
Eventually, one of the judges from the pit came to deliver a tray crowded with bowls of hot stew. He offered his thanks for the fight in the trial by combat with Rigel, politely requesting a more calm rematch when he was a bit better. Apparently, their successive losses against the single fighter had urged the warriors of Concetta's group to redouble their training efforts. Some had even tried to incorporate his fighting style into their own techniques.
Rigels' group hadn't perfectly blended with their's but they were certainly amicable. The current plan was to wait for Rigel to recover and secure the abandoned town as a hideout from Rain and the rest of the marines. Rigel was a bit suspicious of them staying in the clutches of a group that had been so bloodthirsty so recently, but being unable to move, he didn't have much capability to protest the decision. Once Murray started nodding off, Sakeith took the boy back to their shack, adjacent to Rigel's. Meyye stayed behind.
"I was pretty useless in there," she said suddenly. "I even got captured and couldn't help you fighting any of those guys."
"In the pit? That was hardly a normal situation. You got us here from the Bird House didn't you? And stayed ahead of Rain on the rivers."
"So I'm good at running away?" Rigel didn't have a response to that. Meyye was smart enough to know that wasn't what Rigel meant, so he waited patiently for her to explain herself. "I'm asking the people here to train me. They've got fighters in pretty much any style there is, so, there's definitely going to be something I'm good at. You're going to leave Dulan at some point, right?"
All the new information and the questions were a little overwhelming for the pirate, but he couldn't catch up before Meyye asked her next question. "I've talked to Murray and Sakeith about this. If we can be useful, would you take all of us with you?"
