Name: Judge Island Bank: S Warehouse: S Major: Yes Benefactor: Holy Army Turf: Rimesburg Components: Holy Army|Nobility Environments: Grasslands|Forest|Hills Size: Large Inhabited: Yes Description: In the warmer part of the Monarch Sea, Judge Island stands as the place of origin for the Church of Svon, it is the holiest of lands and ruled by the Arch Bishop. It is not required that everyone who lives on Judge Island be a follower of the Church of Svon, but only worshippers are allowed to live in the well kept capital, Rimesburg.
There, as devote followers of the church, though the people aren't perfect, they strive to embody good morality by living humbly and exercising togetherness. It seems as you rise up the class scale, the people do better to adopt these virtues, but the Nobility are an exception, because of the privileges they've gained. Altogether, there is a universal ignorance amongst the people in regards to world beyond the atrocities and ceaseless fighting against pirates. They are educated, but only as far as their occupation calls for and of the Bible. Along with a higher standard of living that guarantees all citizens are fed and have clean water, and blessings from the church that cure the sick, they have regular access to one of the North Blue's finest libraries.
While there's a focus on history, the libraries have many books on trades which the people indulge in to further their own talents and contribute to the society. The exception is books on science. While not forbidden, the church regulates the levels of technology and scientific knowledge the people have access to, the higher classes having more exposure. The poorer districts in town still operate on a basic level, relying on manpower and flames. The middle class know of lamps for their streets and gas stoves. In the Noble districts and courts it isn't rare to see automobiles. The reason is of course because science and technology lead to immorality like witchcraft or slovenly living from too much luxury. Armed with ignorance, but strong loyalty to and faith in the church the people are narrowminded and quick to reject information, especially from outsiders and a few are surprisingly gullible.
Of the Noble houses, they are all families that the church have approved of and blessed. Like other Nobles, those of Rimesburg hold great value in their pedigree and blood, so it makes sense that these families said to have the purest blood second to Celestial Dragons. A rumor circulates that what makes their blood pure is how close their genetics are to one of the progenitors of man, Svon the I(first). He's a legendary historical figure who's virtuous conquest is documented in the Bible.
With this value of blood, it has created a society where men and women, get equal treatment, at least in the capital. It's not uncommon to see Noble women as the head of their house as opposed to their husbands if their bloodline is a higher grade. This blur of gender roles goes as far as both men and women having the ability to join the Holy Army once they are of age. Seen as the protectors of the city, the island, and even out in far away places, the Holy Army is a well respected extension of the church and many worshippers see it as an instrument of God. Encyclopedia: - Lore: Prior to the Church of Svon militarizing and forming the Holy Army in year 752, the people of the North Blue were under a constant brutal onslaught of pirates and Vikings due to the Celestial Dragons leaving to Marie Jois. The people of Judge Island were an easy target for these raiders, but Blynn Seles stood against the odds and helped the people endure a 47 day siege from Rolough the Brigand. After narrowly grasping victory, Blynn saw to it that the people of the church were formally trained to defend themselves and they received financial support from the local kingdoms to become the North Blues fighting force in lieu of the Marines.
