VANTAGES Vantages are counters that are attached to a character to signify a buff or debuff that would apply to them in that particular situation. They are generated by doing things such as using real world principles like anatomy or basic physics, showing effective planning in posts, and using good writing and storytelling/plot to build impactful momentum. Each application of them is unique to itself, but they are a currency that comes free to the player and can change the tide of battle if used right.
The Strawhats and Bege's wedding crashing plot against Big Mom is a great example of how character's can not only be severely debuffed by having their weaknesses exploited, caught off guard, ambushed, etc, but also how characters can temporarily generate buffs from the positive momentum of a situation. Just as quick as they come, they go.
OFFENSIVE Offensive Vantages increase a character's Strength & Power Attribute to raise the amount of damage they can cause. METHODS
Speed Advantage: High velocity can increase the potency of certain types of attacks, typically physical ones that cut/cleave or bash. The following shows how Speed Advantages can be converted into Offensive Advantages.
1 Speed Advantage: 1 Offensive Advantage
3 Speed Advantages: 2 Offensive Advantages
5 Speed Advantages: 3 Offensive Advantages
Equipment - Equipment can give character's Offensive Advantages through use of Slots.
Misc: Attacking with spinning force, obscene amounts of weight, more durability/hardness, etc can produce Advantages. Muscle strain/damage can cause Disadvantages.
DEFENSIVE Defensive Vantages increase a character's Durability & Endurance Attribute to reduce the amount of damage they take. METHODS
Blocking: Raising your guard and blocking attacks is a great way to reduce potential damage.
Elemental/Natural Superiority: Seen with Logias, some fruit's place higher than others in the elemental hierarchy. i.e. Akainu's magma being able to burn Ace who's fire. This law can give some Logia's Defensive Advantages as resistances against certain elements or energies like heat or cold. It can also give Defensive Disadvantages when elements are naturally weak against others. You should include it in their pages, if a Devil Fruit has a unique sort of relationship with any elements or certain energies.
SPEED Speed Advantages increase a character's Speed & Agility Attribute to make them move faster. METHODS-
HOW THEY WORK These three types of Vantages can stack up to 9 counters before being at cap. ADVANTAGES
1 Advantage: +10% Attribute increase
3 Advantages: +20% Attribute increase
5 Advantages: +30% Attribute increase
7 Advantages: +40% Attribute increase
9 Advantages: +50% Attribute increase
DISADVANTAGES
1 Disadvantage: -10% Attribute decrease
3 Disadvantages: -20% Attribute decrease
5 Disadvantages: -30% Attribute decrease
7 Disadvantages: -40% Attribute decrease
9 Disadvantages: -50% Attribute decrease
ACCURACY Accuracy Vantages support an attack with concrete reasons as to why it should be more or less accurate than usual. METHODS
Future Sight: A type of Haki so advanced it allows the character to get a glimpse into the future.
Misc: Getting the jump on your opponent, blocking their vision, nauseating them with poisons or alcohol, etc.
EVASION Evasion Vantages work similarly to Accuracy in the sense that they are actual concrete reasons as to why a character should be more or less difficult to hit. METHODS
Color of Observation: Haki of this tree usually offer forms of sensory that can assist with being able to dodge and predict attacks.
Misc: Ambushes and visual obstructions like smokescreens, debris, weather.
HOW THEY WORK These two types of Vantages can only stack up to 3 counters. Their function is very similar, so they both follow the same explanations. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
1: The edge from the Advantage at this level requires the player put a acknowledgeable amount of effort in beating the odds that are against them. Whether this be in the form of their attempt to hit an advantaged evasive character or to dodge an especially precise attack.
2: It'll be hard if you don't have at least 1 Vantage of your own working to assist you in either hitting this advantaged person or dodging the supported attack at this level. This is on the same level as Ussopp's snipe against the completely unsuspecting Sugar.
3: At this level an attack can be so hard to dodge, that it seems impossible to dodge it. Kizaru vs Super Nova. Or a character is so perceptive they can't be touched. Katakuri Future Sight.
EARNING, CLAIMING, ASSIGNING How Vantages are handled varies based on the nature of the thread. Players are typically in control of their own Vantages and can claim and attempt to assign them to others freely. They can of course also be ruled against and Staff can handle the permissions on Vantages if it is deemed necessary.
Staff: When in a thread moderated by a Staff member, 1)Vantages and who gets them can be in complete control and handed out only by the moderator, or 2) the Staff member can simply be monitoring the thread for the sake of voiding poor Vantage claims as they are made by rping players.
Free: In topics that Staff is not involved in, players must take the reigns and exercise fair play. They can claim Vantages freely, but if other players protest the claim with valid reason, the Vantage can be voided by an intervening moderator if the matter can't be settled.
PvP: PvP situations will typically take the 2nd Staff approach. If found necessary, Staff can disallow Vantages for the length of a thread.
