Yoruba was a wonder of an island. It was so untouched and untamed that its every secret had seemed to invite and entice Rigel. From the moment of them disembarking, he'd been bouncing to actually explore. Unfortunately, he was pushed to deal with a great mess of minutiae beforehand. Eadric, responsible and levelheaded, directed the pirate to help set up their camp by the boat. Marines, pirates and other such parties had already established bases across the coast of the island, so their landing destination was secluded, dark and cloaked in forestry.
The trip from Java to Yoruba had been mostly uneventful, Rigel had met a few of the others working on the mission, Zebediah and his other hires for the operation. Rigel mostly stuck around Eadric and Melissa. Spade, the boxer was a little fight-hungry for Rigel's tastes, and something about the guy warranted Rigel to keep his distance. Other than him, Rigel had enjoyed the trip, constantly pestering Melissa to show off her music and stealing snacks from the ship's kitchen. Eadric seemed upset about the last part until Rigel decided to share. He even put his own encampment up near Rigel's, a small tent furthest from the ship.
Eadric had caught Rigel staring into the murky unknowns of the island one too many times. "Already want to go exploring?" he would ask, throwing a small bedroll into his more luxurious and spacious tent.
Rigel was drawing treehouses into the dirt at his feet, hastily designing treetop fortresses he would build. "That's what we're here for, no? You gonna stop me?"
The guy considered it, but ultimately waved off the idea. "Probably not worth it. You'll go off somehow. Just make sure you don't go alone."
Like a puppy let out for a walk, Rigel exploded off from the site, running towards where Melissa had set up camp. Nobody else really seemed as much fun to take on an adventure. Spade looked like he only wanted to fight, not to adventure or explore. The other guys Rigel hadn't quite met, but struck him as far too odd and unknown to rely on. Melissa was a good hearted pirate from what he could tell, whether she was one of the villainous Red Scarves or not.
"Hey, hey," he'd shout towards her tent, "I'm gonna try to find something dangerous or fun on the island, you coming?"
The journey had been fun, for Melissa anyway. She spent a lot of the journey being badgered by Rigel. She couldn't help but see herself in him. Especially when he was badgering the others. It was how she had been when she first joined the Red Scarf Pirates. She hadn't sang for the first couple of days on their journey. Day three she had taken to swabbing the deck. Not because she had been asked to do so, but because she enjoyed it. It was a chore she did on her old ship. She had woken up in the middle of the night. It had been a while since she had gone into the water, during the entire trip, she did not allow herself to leave without her disguise. She divulged no information about her appearance or being more than just "human".
There was one man on deck, just sailing. She gave him a gentle wave and a soft smile as she grabbed the mop. She began to clean, and then, she began to sing. There wasn't any words, it was more just humming and ad libbing, gentle oooh's and aaaah's. Yet their was still a beautiful undernote too it. She didn't even realise as she finished cleaning that she had been that loud. She could have sworn, almost every member of the crew had woken up and showed their faces to see her singing, She was positive she had even seen Eadric's face at the back of the ship, though she never commented on it. After this, she would sing more and more, every time she was asked, she gave a small performance. Yet all she longed for, was a dip in the sea.
That's why when they arrived. She excused herself "lady troubles" given the rest of the crew were men, she managed to get a little dip without being caught. She refilled her skins and was ready for whatever gave way. The island was stunning, no one could deny this. They walked for a long time, scouting out a location. Knowledge seemed to come to them from their scouts, others had taken to the island just as they had thought. The location of their camp was indeed great. Too far from the sea for Melissa's liking though. She would just have to cope. With everything built and things settling. Melissa was just about to sneak out of the encampment to satiate her want for a swim when the ever so bright Rigel came to her. His excitement was somewhat infectious. He had certainly helped keep the journey entertaining and she enjoyed sharing his snacks. "Dangerous or fun?" she said with an questioning look. "Knowing our luck, we'll find both" she said smiling. "Sure, let's see what we can find" Melissa said tightening her bandana. "Lead the way"

Rigel was happy to lead the way in their journey. Yoruba, in its difference to Dulan and Ophidian, was superbly interesting. Stone and wood seemed both to grow in equal measure. Old construction poked through the greenery. Creatures and plants of impossible shapes and colors drew Rigel in a path that would probably be difficult to return from. Though he might've first begun in a straight line, Rigel would easily get distracted by the littlest oddity, and let it pull him off course. A butterfly that seemed to change color every time it beats its wings carried him to a flowerbed of plants that would make a low roar when the breeze ran through it, warning off hungry herbivores, further past that was a small rodent, burrowing shallow tunnels through the bark of dense trees.
The pirate would yelp and follow after each new mystery. The idea of getting lost was endlessly exciting. Pursuing a long reptilian creature finally led Rigel to a large stone altar. Built into the side of a cliff were deep, carefully made carvings of simplistic figures. Creatures and peoples and impossible things danced along the stone in the artwork. "Any idea what this would mean?" Rigel would ask Melissa, examining the figures without touching, without even breathing on them too hard. He never studied much art with his parents, any greater meaning of the drawings would be totally lost to Rigel.
Examining the mural, he'd come to realize that the altar, and the cliff face were the exterior to a larger building. "Columns, supporting beams," he'd identify, running towards the corner, "I think this leads to a whole building!" His exclamations and running found himself caught in a surprise attack. Two arrows exploded on either side of Rigel, kicking up dust and grass.
A young man with short wings poking out of his fanciful outfit was aiming from atop the mural towards Rigel and Melissa. The pirate prepared to make a move, but the next projectile to come his way was the young man himself. Rigel thought, at first, that he was diving towards the pirate to do battle, but his limp figure suggested that he fell. Out of reflex more than anything else, he dove to catch the archer, his bow clattering to the dirt next to Rigel.
Rigel could instantly feel blood leaking from his figure onto his arm. "Ah!" he shouted. "Melissa, do you know how to stop blood or something?" Immediately after his question was asked, another man's voice would be heard, shouting after the archer.
"Nova!" The voice called, freezing upon seeing Melissa and Rigel. All he would see are the two pirates and the bleeding archer, the latter laying in Rigel's hands.

"This place, is beautiful" Melissa said. She would smile sweetly as she watched Rigel. The young-un was totally enthralled by each new thing he saw. She couldnt help wonder about the aquatic life that was currently swimming in the ocean around them. "That is beautiful" she cooed over the ever changing butterfly. She would jump in surprise at the roaring flowers. "Oh that was scary" she laughed, yet as she tried to examine them, Rigel was off once more. It was at this moment that she realised. "Oh shit, Uhmm....Rig..." she began only to realise he was already on to the next thing. "We're lost" she said though she could not quell the large smile upon her face.
"Probably some old warning, We explored things like this before, strange writing is aaaaaaaalllllwaaayyys some warning. Like danger stay out, danger death, danger you might have to get dirty" she said as she looked at the writing. "Good thing you didn't touch it, probably some kinda trap" She said as she looked to Rigel who was already running onwards. "HEEEY, Slow do" The resulting explosion would drown out whatever warning she was about to shout. Thankfully she had not moved, but she could see the dust shooting upwards. Blocking her vision for a moment of her new friend. "RIGEL" she shouted out as she moved forward.
She would see Rigel moving forward, the figure falling into his arms. Her hand had already moved as she ran forth, the cap of her water skin dangling at her side, her other hand holding the skin upward as to not spill as she moved. She was ready to strike if needed. "Whose bleeding. Uhmm....Just put pressure on the wound, I don't have my sewing kit, uhhm, who is he" she asked. Still somewhat bent forward ready to pour the water onto her hand if need be.
"NOVA"
A voice echoed outward, deep and booming. Soon enough the owner of the voice would make his way from the underbrush, a large man, sculpted like an adonis. Melissa's knees felt like they were going to buckle as the handsome man who wore a bear pelt froze upon seeing them. Her hand slipped and water danced upon her fingers and palm. "OH" she exclaimed as she lifted the skin slightly to stop the pour. Her eyes danced to the rather attractive man, then to Rigel holding who of course would more than likely be Nova. "This is so totally NOT what it looks like" she said with a nervous giggle. She would then turn her head slightly to Rigel. "He's fucking hot" she said a little too loud

"I'd say bleeding man takes priority over hot man," Rigel would hiss, keeping his voice out from the shouting guy's earshot, "but I guess I don't swing that way to begin with." Carefully, so as to not further injure the archer, Rigel would find his way to his feet, holding the bleeding man. "Do you know this man? He probably shouldn't be shooting arrows if he's hurt this bad." The two projectiles sticking out of the earth had been launched with incredible power, even if Nova hadn't actually hit Rigel. To summon that strength with such a wound was an impressive feat on its own. If Melissa couldn't help him then it was more important to find a medic than it was to care why Rigel was targeted.
The shouting man, the one that had firmly caught Melissa's eye, groaned. "If it's not too much trouble, would you follow me? That man is my comrade, Nova, and I'm Ganon."
The decision waffled in Rigel's head. If this was meant to be a surprise attack, then this Ganon person could be manipulating the situation to draw them further in towards their trap. It would be irresponsible to blindly follow. When he'd thought that, Rigel felt the blood seeping out of Nova onto his hand once more. Irresponsible or not, the man in his hands was actually hurt. The adventure into the island would be completely ruined if somebody died because of him.
"Lead the way," he'd eventually say. "I'm Rigel Larrat," he introduced himself, hoping wanted posters didn't make it out to these remote islands. He rolled his eyes, catching sight of Melissa's puppy dog affection, but decided to just lean into being generous for the day. "And this lovely woman is Melissa." Rigel wasn't a fanatic for romance, but wasn't one to get in the way of other's desires so long as they were harmless to him. If the pirate wanted to lust after some half-naked jungle dude, then that was her freedom. "This is really your type?" he would whisper teasingly, following Ganon around the corner of the mural.
After a short walk around the mural, the group would find themselves in the mouth of a large cave, sprawling and wide. It was adorned with carvings and drawings all around its mouth, similar to those found on the mural altar. This time, they earned very little attention from Rigel. Laying in the space all around the mouth of the cave were young men and women, like Nova, bleeding and bandaged, recovering from injuries or sleeping between grunts of pain. Even worse were the bodies that lay deathly still, being tattooed by an older, weeping man.
"Pachwua!" Ganon would shout towards the tattoo artist, "Focus on the living, not the dead and their rites. We don't have time for such frivolities. Nova ran off again."
Rigel would lay the archer down on a grassy mat as delicately as he could manage. Pachwua, the older, weeping man would steadily and wordlessly get to work on Nova's injuries. The pirate watched in anxious anticipation.

"Yes. yes yes thats true" Melissa said as she gave the man another look uop. Rigel seemed to have the smaller male in hand which was lucky. Melissa couldnt really carry much due to her weakness. As she was about to speak, the booming male did so. "I'd follow you anywhere Ganon, Melissa Devaroux, future wife" she said. As they walked, she made sure to keep her hand hydrated. This water was sea water. She would take her second skin, this one was filled with normal water. Taking a drink she offered it to Rigel as he made his comments. "He's pretty much a beef cake" she said. "Don't be jealous, you are just as adorable" she said with a wink. She was much more comfortable around Rigel and the others now. Having spent so much time with them on the boat.
As they approached the cave, they were taken in. Melissa would note the wounded immediatly. natives she thought to herself. They had too be right? They didn't seem like pirates, and given the odd ritual and rites they were performing she didn't think any pirate crew would have such a thing. She could be wrong of course. This put her on edge. The natives of most islands didn't like strangers, so why had they been taken in. As the one called Pachwua began working on Nove, Melissa would walk among the bodies of those whom had been left still and lifeless. "What....what happened?" she asked softly. Looking to Ganon. "Did someone do this to you?" a sadness had filled her face. She knew the answer, of course others did this. These people probably lived in peace for so long and now others came for them. They were being attacked in their own home.
"How did you get here.....stories say this place fell from the sky? That can't be true" she said. Obviously it couldn't be...but then devilish powers and all that...it would make sense...what if...what if the powers weren't devilish at all but more angelic? "There's nothing...we can do for them, It's not much but" many would think it stupid. But it was an old, whats the word. An old tradition of her people, one that she carried over to the Red Scarfs and now for these people. She would begin to sing a song. "“In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground. May we meet again." she sang softly.

Upon closer examination, the reason for their injuries became clear to Rigel, even before Melissa asked. He shared a knowing glance with her. "Yesterday, I came to the altar here to commune with the spirit of the Dark," Ganon gestured towards the inside of the cave. "When I arrived, some strange people were destroying our alter... our murals!" he pointed out the various chips and breaks in the stone. Rigel had thought they were natural effects of decay and time passing, but it made sense. This rock looked strange and valuable. It's probably what drew the natives to think there were spirits inside the cave. Others had caught on to its more material worth, it seemed.
Pachwua, still weeping, spoke up next, "These brutes! Why can't they just see their destruction! Why can't they see their barbarism!" Through his words and tears he would patch up Nova, now looking to be in better condition. But, he was just one of many cases that needed treatment, and Pachwua would quickly return to helping other warriors in critical condition. It was a grave sight to witness. Rigel wanted to help, but could only join Ganon, sitting near Nova and watching his chest rise and fall. That familiar feeling of helplessness was welling up, tight and uncomfortable inside of Rigel's heart. Technically, he was on Yoruba for treasure too. He would have to be sure to never steal anything from these people, and only take what was freely available.
To reconcile that wish with his job might be impossible, but to do anything else would be a betrayal of he wanted to be.
"Believe it," Ganon told Melissa. "We fell from the sky. Our chief has been hard at work trying to understand why the Spirits would do this to us. In the meantime it's all we can do to protect our treasures and altars. We've already lost the Altar to the Spirit of Thunder to some pirates. Nova fought so hard there as well. To think that he would keep fighting here," Ganon tried to control his tears. "This isn't fair. What did we do wrong?"
Melissa's requiem would interrupt his crisis in the best possible way. Her soft song calmed even the sharpest wounds, and gave pause to Ganon and Pachwua's tears. It was like a spell was cast, freezing time all over the camp. The appreciation for what had been lost and what could be lost pushed everybody listening to reflect. It hardened Rigel's resolve. He waited patiently for Melissa to finish her song, coming to a very pretty close.
"I don't know much about your spirits. But, if these guys come back," Rigel began to ask, "would it be alright if I stayed and helped you talk to them? Maybe convince them to leave this place alone?" Rigel was unsure if his presence would change things at all, but to leave without trying was an impossibility. He wanted Melissa to stay as well, but felt it unfair to ask the musician to stick around for what could be a very lethal fight.
Ganon nodded, "They said they would return with their officers," he explained. "If you'd like to stay, then do as you please."
"Well, if your staying, then so am I" Melissa said looking to Rigel. "These people, didn't deserve this" she sighed. Even when she was with the Red Scarves, they never did anything like this. Killing and hurting was always a last resort, unless you were a marine then well, a battle was a battle, or someone who was just downright blood thirsty and mean. "Is there anywere else we can move the injured?" Melissa asked gently. She placed a hand upon Ganons shoulder. "Not to be insensitive, but right now, these guys are a liability, they aren't going to be any good in a potential fight. They could be used as leverage to get you to back down if it came to that" she said. Looking the man deep in his eyes. God he was soo hot. "It's strange, I didn't expect the natives to be so....trusting" Melissa said. She had a habit of just saying what she was thinking. "I mean, especially since you were just attacked and something precious was destroyed. You brought us here without hesitation" she said curiously.
Melissa then turned to Rigel. "Talkings all well and good, has anyone told you, that you have a good heart" she said, cocking her head and smiling. "You remind me a little of Gabriel" though at this she shook her head. "Turns out he was a lil bit too trusting in the end. If there are people coming. We should set up an ambush. Some sort of defence. If "negotiations" go south, then we should at least have an advantage. Especially if we don't know their numbers." Melissa's mind was whirling. She honestly hadn't been much good in fights in her earlier years, but the many years of training and watching with her old crew had certainly embedded some great qualities into her brain. "The caves entrance can probably fit about four or five in a line. Not good enough to bottle neck em in. Plus if the injured can't move, then we are just inviting them in" she said placing a hand upon her chin. "Tree's are probably our best bet. Hiding a few feet from the cave, so we can stop them when they come."
She would look around though, their didn't seem to be many warriors within this small make shift tribe. "Where are the rest of your people? Surely this can't be it. Is there other settlements? Could we get reinforcements....or is this all that there is?" The mermaid queeried.

Rigel admired Melissa for her brave decision. Not only was she choosing to stay and help these people, she was actively suggesting ways to aid in their protection. He was going to compliment her choice until he saw her eyes dance from Ganon's pecs to his eyes to his abs to his eyes again. There were other things on her mind, but ultimately she'd made a choice that Rigel agreed with. On her suggestion, Pachwua rallied the few troops that weren't injured too severely to begin moving the dead and the invalid, rotating their forces to somewhere a bit more secluded. Rigel would carry a few of them as well, careful not to touch or encroach on the dead, so as to disrespect their sacrifice to their tribe.
"Pachwua is the kind of guy to believe in spirits as tangible, interactive forces of nature," Ganon would explain, trying to answer Melissa's questions in believe helping move soldiers. "I disagree. Spirits exist in the spaces we can't control. In the coincidences and the astounding. Nova is the best archer of the guardians in our tribe. And he missed two very close shots on two suspicious people. When Nova senses danger, he hits his mark." He paused over the unconscious guardian's body. "I think a spirit, inside his fingers or his heart swayed the path of those arrows. He sensed no threat from you. And his last act as guardian was to invite two more warriors to replace him. I have faith in you two. You've yet to earn my trust."
When the invalid soldiers had all been moved, they were left with less than a dozen troops with simple weaponry, spears, daggers and bows, in addition to Ganon, Melissa and Rigel. Pachwua watched over the rest of the small platoon. Rigel would disagree. "I want to trust there's a chance that these people can hear reason," Rigel would explain. "If you all feel the need to hide in the trees for an ambush then you may. If I'm allowed to speak with these invaders, then I plan to tell them the whole truth. I'll fight them off if that fails. If you guys want vengeance, I'm not your man, unfortunately."
Ganon seemed uncomfortable with being given such a choice. "I want our land protected and this conflict ended. That's my goal." He waffled between Melissa and Rigel's suggestions. "There are many other warriors in our tribe, just like there are many other sacred spots, and many other invaders," he would go on to say. "Our job is to succeed in protecting the spirit of the Dark and her altar, it would be an immense dishonor to weaken our other defenses to accomplish this. An even greater dishonor to those who have already fallen."
Rigel wouldn't argue either way. "Choose as you please, I'll be right here for them when they arrive." In the center of the cave's mouth, he'd sit down in full view. Melissa would have a chance to argue her position to Ganon once more, or they too would sit in full view of invaders that would arrive. "I hate a waste of violence."
"Interesting" Melissa said softly. As she watched the dead and injured be lifted and moved. She would sigh gently. Though until Rigel finished his statements, she remained silent. He was strong in his conviction. This was admirable.. She would sit next to Ganon and in a low voice speak as Rigel sat in the entrance to the cave. "He's still so young" she said softly. "Its going to be a hard lesson for him, when his gentle actions cause others to die". She did'nt look at Ganon as she spoke, she only looked at Rigels back. "These people came here and attacked right? They wanted things and they took it, they did'nt care about the men and women who would be left behind or the men and women who died"
The woman stood up, her hand gently glinded upon Ganon's body. "You are a fiiiine looking man" She said a little creepily. "You should get the others ready. Position them as far back as you can. If this....When this goes south, if any get passed us, your gonna need to be the next line of defence. Melissa would give him a wink. She moved towards Rigel sitting down beside him, shaking her head. "Don't take this the wrong way, you are adorable. But this way of thinking, it might get you killed, or worse....you might survive while those you care about die" Melissa said directly too him.
"I'm not saying that too....too hurt you honestly. I'm just, I just....I...you just need to be realistic. These people pretty much slaughtered those here, for what? treasure? power? and you think just by talking to them, you'll change their mind? Ganon and the others probably tried to speak to them, maybe even begged for mercy, and now Nova's recovering and many others are dead, I'm not saying revenge or vengence, or even blood for blood. Just, take this from an older bird, sometimes being prepared and cautious keeps you alive" she would gently touch his shoulder. "Some people...some people are just evil cunts" she said bluntly.
Post by Rigel Larrat on Jul 7, 2020 21:15:57 GMT -8
Ganon would understand Melissa's orders and rally his own troops to obey. In the darkness of the sacred cave, they'd hide themselves, prepared to be thrown back into battle should the situation require it. Rigel didn't pay their preparations much mind. He didn't want to go into conversation with the marines thinking about the soldiers at his back. He didn't want to rely on a fight. He wanted to be capable of solving this problem and helping others with as little assistance as possible. Warding off these invaders would be an important step in realizing his own abilities to do that.
"'Some people are just evil,'" Rigel reflected on Melissa's words. They surely came from experience. They came from some part of her that had been wounded so seriously it might never heal. He couldn't blame her for offering such advice. He could only thank her. "I appreciate your warning," he'd say honestly, not budging from his spot in the mouth of the cave. "When I was in prison I was surrounded by those I'd been taught had been pure evil. People like your Red Scarves, I might add," he tried to describe his reasoning. "Pure evil exists, but I think it only comes from fear, desperation and grief."
Rigel rocked his head back and forth, drawing lines in the dirt to pass the time. "They weren't bad. I don't know if anybody is bad. The same way people aren't good." His lines formed interconnecting designs, a small ship on the waves. "There's just what people want. The natives want to protect their cave. The new people want the cave. I want people to stop dying over dirt." His heel stamped his drawing out of existence, kicking up a small cloud that dissipated into the air. "So then it just comes down to who wants it most. It comes down to strength. If that's all it takes to stop this, then I'm willing to gamble that I have enough power."
The bigheaded talk exhausted Rigel. He didn't like overly complicated things and he didn't like lecturing others. "I know I could get hurt. But, Nova tried to pierce our hearts while he was bleeding out of his gut. These natives will die. I'm willing to help them with what they want just because that's what I want to do."
When he'd finally articulated his points, he'd go back to his vigil. It would take a little while, but the from the trees facing the altar of the Dark, a large brown mass would come soaring through the treeline. Its figure, baffled by what it say, would poke its head out towards Rigel, sitting still in front of the cave. "What do you think you're doing there?" a feminine voice would ask.
"Hello there," Rigel would try to greet it, her, calmly. "Are you part of the group that fought here a little while ago?" This question caused the figure to retreat and bristle. "No, no. Listen, I'm not trying to fight. I think there's been a grave misunderstanding between your group and the Shandorians. I'd like to talk. I'm unarmed. My name is Rigel." His brief introduction was more puzzling than it was informative.
"Wait right there." The little creature would say, before retreating. Rigel would obey, he'd obey long enough for a full squadron of fresh faced soldiers to make their way through the forest and to the cave. The figure that had spoken seemed to be a brown-furred mink. Two dozen soldiers, with swords and pistols followed the lead of a woman with thick dreads for hair, and a massive gun slung around her shoulder. Rigel would stay sitting.
"Hello there. I hope we can talk before you decide to use that big thing on me." Rigel wasn't that worried about the woman suddenly opening fire. She would've stayed much further back if that was her decision. He was more worried about the Shandorians at his back losing their cool. If a single spark was struck, this whole volatile situation had the capacity to go up in smoke.

"Or greed, the thrill, the want for power." Melissa added to the list that Rigel had given. "I once knew a woman, who murdered endangered animals, and pets, even minks. Just because she wanted fur coats" Melissa said. "One day, we'll both be able to pick out whose actions are evil and whose are pure, your not sceptical enough. Perhaps I'm a little too sceptical these days" she said as she leant her body playfully against his. "Just remember, sometimes, your own strength might not be enough. Thats why pirates have crews and marines had squads. There's more strength in numbers than people think, not everyones fodder" She said this with confidence, because she had been the fodder.
"Getting hurt. Thats not the problem, its getting hurt when it could have been avoided. Not everything needs to be a face on confrontation, under handed, dirty? maybe, but its how people survive. If you don't see it coming, then thats an advantage" The sea mistress spoke. "Plan A can always be too talk, but plan B,C,D and onwards. They all have to be different, talking will only go so far against people who can do this, for what? Treasure? rumours?" she motioned out to the cave. "I bet you these guys tried to talk and now their dead" she said. Their was no toxicity in her voice, no pleading, she was just talking, softly and gently, Rigel had his point of view and she had hers, She prayed he was right, but if these people were able to be reasoned with? Then does that mean Ganon and Nova attacked first?
"This is getting boring" The red scarf pirate complained it felt like it had been forever until their was some movement. Melissa would go to stand up, only to notice Rigel remained seated. "I guess this is how we do this" she uttered as she adjusted her weight to get more comfortable. Her hand unscrewed her water skin as the small creature and Rigel began to speak to one another. "I'm unarmed too..this is just water" she said, and to prove it she poured a little bit in to her hand. "See" she said in faux amazement. "She can use that big thing on me" Melissa said winking coyly. She eyed each soldier. sighing softly. "I hope you know what your doing kid"

Rigel knew that objectively speaking, Melissa was right. Her way of thinking was safer for them and for the Shandorians. But he was unconcerned with being right and didn't want to jump into a conflict he didn't understand fully. "I have a crew. That's why I'm here on Yoruba, to protect them where they are. You should come sometime," he said. Rigel wasn't even debating her at that point. He'd stubbornly selected what he would do and was unwilling to change his mind easily. Peaceful conclusions were probably impossible. Seeking one still seemed worth it to him.
"I'm Taylor Mosa, captain of the people's revolution! You don't seem to be with the Shandorians, but you're in our way nonetheless. Move." Her words weren't playing around, but the woman hadn't lifted her large gun towards Rigel yet. Her soldiers hadn't done so either.
Rigel shook his head. "I'm not with anyone, but... a lot of people have died. I was hoping you and the people here could talk things over a little longer." Behind him, the pirate could get the sense that there was shifting, subtle movement going on. The natives were nervous, they were agitated just by the presence of this group. "Please. I'm sure a lot on your side died earlier too. There's no reason a conversation can't happen before your shooting."
Taylor didn't seem to like this suggestion. "You're right... a lot of people died today. But, not within my faction and not on this island," she shook her head, cracking her knuckles while she spoke. "Every island across the seas on which the World Government sits, people are slaughtered every day. Their marine lapdogs are the tools, and we are the resistance!" Her words instilled a fighting spirit into her people. She was a beacon of leadership in the midst of their group, and if Rigel didn't calm her down then her soldiers would be frothing at the mouth for a fight. "I've been ordered to take the Nguriam inside of this cave. I will take every shaving of it and opponents to my goal will not find me merciful!"
"No, wait!" Rigel shouted over the roar of her revolutionaries, hoping also to prevent the Shandorians in the shadows from making sudden moves. "This is sacred land, it's not just important to you!" His words did nothing. Taylor Mosa leveled her gun at Rigel. He still didn't stand up. He couldn't abandon his position between the two groups.
"Right..." she said, more calmly. "I've heard that before. By the way," her gun finally was trained towards the altar, towards Rigel and Melissa. "The shabby soldiers you've got hiding for a sneak attack inside of there aren't gonna fool me, boy." At this, Rigel flew to his feet. Taylor prepared to fire but was interrupted by an arrow severing its ammunition belt. Nova had fired off from somewhere unseen in the forest. But, with his attack, negotiations were impossible. "That archer! I thought I'd killed him dead. We've gave them a chance to retreat, men! They didn't take it! Charge!"
Her orders instigated the conflict. Ganon could no longer hold his fellows back, and the Shandorians flew forward, intent on defending themselves and their homeland. Spears and bullets were exchanged across the battlefield in which Melissa and Rigel were then caught. It had gone from tension to carnage in only one swift move. The pirate was totally unsure of what to do next, sucked into the eye of the storm. Rigel had failed. He wasn't strong enough to protect anyone. It was becoming a familiar heartbreak.
Melissa's eyes didn't leave the female. her words were indeed filled with power, She watched as her crew became instilled with vigor, She knew this attempt at conversation was going to fail. She didn't know who they were, or what Ngurium was. She honestly didn't care. A pit in her stomach had formed, she couldn't help but feel bad for Rigel as it all came down crashing upon him. The arrow shot passed the sitting Mermaid, finding its mark non-lethally. So Taylor had been the one to hurt Nova. She was going to regret letting that bit of information slip. As the Shandorians charged, Melissa stood from her spot. "This isn't a failure" The female said. as she spoke, her wet hand had lifted upwards. her thumb erected and her finger pointed out into a faux gun. "Pew,pew, pew, pew, pew" she said as five small orbs of water burst from the tips of her finger tip. They aimed for the soliders, not Taylor herself. They aimed for the knees and the arms, not a single one life threatening "we can do this, without killing anyone" She said to Rigel. "Thats true strength" and with that she vanished into the crowd of Shandorians.
Her heart was beating so fast, the last time she had been in a battle like this...she was useless and pathetic. She was weak and un-needed. Now? Now she had to be strong, for Rigel. For the Shandorians. Killing would have been a lot easier. but Rigel....she didn't understand him fully, he had a crew, something was going wrong with them and thats why he was here. He didn't seem like an agrressive pirate, he didn't seem like one who would kill. Melissa on the other hand...she didn't mind killing if it protected her friends, though she had only killed twice.....both an accident, unaware of what she was fully doing. She had tried to kill one person on purpose, alas he seemed to have survived.
The mermaid, if one was looking for her, would be engaged with two of the army, fighting side by side with Ganon. "KEEP EM ALIVE, DON'T KILL THEM. DON'T FALL TO THEIR LEVEL" Melissa shouted. One thing to note, Melissa's right hand was engulfed in water, a long blade of water flowing in and out of motion. She crashed together with one of the soldiers, parried him and dove underneath. She stumbled a little in her boots, the sword managing to catch her by the arm, ripping her top slightly. "Fuuck" she growled as she turned just in time to avoid another sword, her own blade came upwards. With one fluid motion, she disconnected the arm of the one who had lunged at her. "OH SHIT, SORRY" she shouted over the roar of battle. Her blade was becoming red, the blood of those she slashed seemingly joining with her.
