Name: Virginia Walker
Age: 21
Race: Human
Faction: Revolutionary Army
Gender: Female
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 65kg
Appearance:Virginia's natural look rugged, with no care about appearance, choosing practicality instead. Her even features and fair skin give a natural beauty. Her green eyes and low brows usually display a focused look. Her burgundy hair is often changed with dye on a whim. Her build is average and unassuming but holds a wiry strength. She prefers darker clothes but never keeps to a uniform as suits her role within the Army. Her stance is kept forward and balanced on her toes, relaxed with a tad of aggression.
While on mission, she is either in disguise or aiming not to be seen at all. With the former, she creates an immaculate copy of the character she is trying to imitate, and is able to change her mannerisms to suit said character. With the latter, she hides herself with dark and loose clothing so as to move quickly without being noticed.
Her main disguise is a personification of her codename "Green". While in this disguise she wears a green wig, often with a cap and shades or goggles with a pink tint. She wears thick makeup which remodels her facial structure. She adorns camo of various kinds. Black for night missions, white for snowy areas and brown for urban areas. While she is "Green", she does her best to channel her ideal image of herself. This comes off as calm and calculating, and is modelled after her superior, Captain Edith Kane.
Personality:Virginia's most prominent personality trait is her views on strength and competence. She dislikes weakness in others, but she especially dislikes it in herself. It is not necessarily in physical strength but instead in character. How one deals with adversity in life in general, particularly when challenged by another human. This has made the woman turn out to be overly serious. She can even be rather insecure when challenges are made to her own strength. Sometimes she acts out in bravado or aggression to prove to others and to herself that she is not weak.
“A man’s spirit is free, but his pride binds him with chains of suffocation in a prison of his own insecurities” - Jeremy Aldana
This constant measuring of her own strength is multiplied when there are others around her that can be considered rivals. Whether it be foe or friend, she takes competition seriously. Every strong person is evidence that she doesn't matter, every weak person is evidence that she is special. How many of each type of person she meets on any particular day can determine how she feels about herself on that day. Due to her outstanding abilities, her ego has grown in recent years and she feels as though she deserves more reward for her successes in her career. This intensity can be offputting for those with a more casual nature.
“Everything is a contest. All dealings among men are a contest in which some will succeed and others fail. And some are failing quite spectacularly.” - Brandon Sanderson
She also admires strength. Only when she sees someone with a strong character or physical strength in a position above her can she accept them as a superior. But when she does, she admires them. It can be jealousy or love, but those people are shining gems in her eyes. Even in marines will she admire a strong enemy. She will work hard to be at that level instead of harbouring maliciousness.
“Confirmation bias is the most effective way to go on living a lie.” - Criss Jami
Her view on pirates is that they are an existence much like sickness. They are always present somewhere. And when they don't affect her directly, she bears no ill will. Sometimes they get out of hand and spread like the plague, decimating populations. In times like these, the world must come together to purge them for the wellbeing of all. However, a little bit of the pirate sickness is a good thing. It serves to prod the immune system of society, forcing a reaction and for it to become stronger in it's defences. In this way, pirates can serve the purpose of continually checking the strength of humanity. And if a population should fall to a band of second-rate thugs, then it is only the result of balanced nature that they pay for their weakness with death.
“If you're not gonna go all the way, why go at all?” - Joe Namath
The Revolutionary Army is the only home she has ever known. Her ideals about how the world should be is a textbook representation of what she was brought up to believe. The world needs a revolution, and she would be the one to bring it if that is what it took. However, she is not personally invested in the cause. She was isolated from the world during childhood and read about the plight of others in books rather than experiencing the mistreatment of the World Government for herself. Her goals with the Army is more about her personal advancement for now.
“Ambition is not a dirty word. Piss on compromise. Go for the throat.” - Steven Erikson
After becoming an adept agent, acting became a way of life for Virginia. Slipping in and out of roles allowed her to experience different viewpoints and to live different lives. She could see how other people were treated and how they might respond to the world around them. It was a useful escape when life got too suffocating for the real Virginia. Lying to yourself is the most common deception that people make, and Virginia takes it to the extreme. She has found that she can alter her mood entirely just by changing character just as one would change a radio station.
“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” - William Shakespeare
In the last several years, Virginia has become aware at the importance and delicacy of social interactions. Humans are very social creatures and their treatment of each other makes up for a lot of the cause and effect present in the world. She has discovered that being able to deduce these nuances and even manipulate them for herself multiplies her effectiveness at her job. She has found that applying this to her own social network allows her to increase her standing and improve her life. Like a spider on a web, she picks up on disturbances and pounces on the opportunity.
“You either play the game by its rules, or by someone's else.” - Kiyo Giaozhi
Due to her isolation from regular society for the first decade of her life, she is a bit detached in some ways. Her sharp wit was able to recoup the distance quickly but it did change her outlook on society itself. She has less romantic views about the world than most other people. Society and people are just a bunch of repeating patterns and formulae which are able to be figured out if studied enough. The art of humour is something that still eludes her, though. She tries her best to practice, but often misses the mark awkwardly.
“As long as one can think as an outsider, an observer apart from the conflict, there is hope for a resolving thought.” - R. N. Prasher
Bonding with her allies is not something that Virginia has ever invested much time into. Even though she has spent many years with her team, she still keeps them at arm's length. She tries to subtly manipulate them when she needs to, but otherwise doesn't see the need for friendship. This side of her is what remains from the displacement she went through as a child.

History:Seeds Of Rebellion"It has become clear to me in recent years that our ideals lay far from our grasp. Our desired influence eclipsing our trifling aptitude. The beast of the World Government is a terrifying, gluttonous monster that our blades are unable to pierce. Now I, more than ever, am sure that we will not be able to achieve all that we wish to achieve with the Revolutionary Army within my lifetime.
And so we must trust our hopes and our future to the next generation. We shall till the soil, plant the seeds, and nurture their growth. In time, a great forest will emerge, able to withstand the mightiest of storms.
To our great adversary, I say this! You may chain us, and we will accept our bondage. You may cut us, and we will recoil at the pain. But tomorrow will be another day! Our children will have the freedom that we thirst so ever much for!
Join me, my fellows! This is the gamble I have chosen. We must invest in the future of our people. We must toil so that our world flourishes. We must make sacrifice so that our children prosper!
This is not surrender! This is not concession! We have lost many a battle, but my friends, believe me when I say that we will win this war!"
Leader of the Revolutionary Army - Silver Age
Audience with followers and allies of the Army.
With this decree came a change in policy in which the Revolutionary army operated. They were no longer going to struggle for control over a few towns and small islands. Instead, they focused on preparing for the future. One of these preparations was the castle that came to be known as Chateau de Gelure.
The Revolutionary Army's strongest were defeated around fifty years ago. From this point, they only grew weaker, giving ground and unable to contest their enemy. After this decree, the Army fractured into pieces and spread out among the seas. Some surrendered, some fled and some began anew, hoping to rekindle what was extinguished. As of today, the small groups that comprise the Army operate independently and barely ever make contact with one another. Differences in morals and culture between the groups have already formed. This would pose a difficult challenge to overcome if one were to want to forge the revolution anew.
Project FrostbiteWhen a fearsome pirate has a child, it is said that the child has evil blood running through its veins. The World Government, and many of the people they govern, look down upon these newborns as something more than human. As if the sins of the parent could be passed down along with the rest of their hereditary traits.
These babies are born with targets on their backs. They are hunted down and culled without mercy. The lengths at which the government will go to find these children seems to be to no end. Some guess that should a child of a pirate king be born into the world, the World Government would set out to erase every single baby of the same age on the planet just to be certain that it doesn't slip through their fingers. These actions are some of the most distasteful that the government commit, and draw the ire of their enemies. Naturally, it is something that the revolutionaries wished to counteract.
Not only that, but the same persecution is targeted toward the children of infamous revolutionary leaders and the like. Naturally, this put many of the families of the Revolutionary Army at risk. There was demand for a way of hiding these children away from the threat of the outside world. To satisfy this demand, Chateau de Gelure was built under the policy titled 'Project Frostbite'.
Here, you would find children from all over the world. Not only those from famous pirates and revolutionaries, but any at-risk children that the Revolutionary Army happened upon. There were also a few souls here, who even in their early years, had been placed in the chateau due to them displaying an abundant amount of 'spirit'.
Here, these children would be educated and instilled with the values of the revolutionaries. They would also undergo harsh training. Yes, for the army, this endeavour wasn't an act of altruism. It was one of the policies enacted to invest in the future. The intent was to have these talented kids grow up to be the future leaders of the Revolutionary Army.
Chateau de GelureWith its name translating into 'Frostbite Castle', the chateau was never a warm place. But it would be a mistake to think that it ever got devastatingly cold, either. Certainly, no one ever got frostbite there. It was situated on Drum Island, inside one of the drum shaped mountains. The chateau received it's light from various thick ice walls that line the mountain. The thickness and lack of purity of the ice rendered it useless for seeing through, but it proved to be a good natural skylight which lit up the chateau at three quarters of the luminosity of the outside. How exactly the inside of a mountain was hollowed out in this unnatural way is known only to a few select revolutionaries.
This same group of people would be the only ones to know how to get in and out of the mountain, too. A dinghy wrapped in a coating made from sap taken from the Saboady Isles is able to be taken as transport from inside to outside the mountain via the subterranean river.
Occasionally, goods were shipped in through this channel as well. But this is mostly unneeded, as Chateau de Gelure was set up to be self sufficient. The river water was clean, there were plenty of strains of fruit and vegetables which flourished in the greenhouses, and a couple of small herds of various animals provided the occasional meat needed for a balanced diet. Barely anything is wasted. If clothes were damaged, they were fixed or sewen into something else. Broken furniture was repurposed. House repairs made with the woody plant material that thrived inside the mountain and stone quarried from the mountain.
The leader of the house was one Madame Bourdoux. She was a prominent ally of the Army, and volunteered for the role as she felt it suited her skillset and passion. Intelligent, compassionate and diligent, she made a fantastic parental figure for the kids who resided here. She was also very strict when it came to their studies and training, impelled to make the policy a success. Madame Bourdoux was enigmatic to a degree. There is something more below the surface. It was her that selected many of the children for Project Frostbite. It is said that she has an eye for talent that goes beyond intuition, and can measure someone's 'spirit'.
Growing Up in the ChateauVirginia was one of the children that grew up in Chateau de Gelure. She arrived at the castle on her fourth birthday and didn't remember much before then. She didn't even know whether Virginia was her real name as to her knowledge, all the kids received new names upon arrival. This new name was to accompany the fresh slate they had in life. Wherever they came from, they were treated the same here and brought up the same. Only their future mattered now.
Life was simple. The inside of the mountain and her new adopted family were Ness's whole world. It was a bit of a bird cage, but she was content as she knew nothing else. She was a happy child, and grew up sociable with the others. She had a few older housemates, but most of them were younger. She took on the role of a big sister, assisting Madame Bourdoux in her motherly duties. She also worked in the greenhouses, and with the farm animals.
She had two best friends in the chateau. Both were her age, one black haired boy named Robin and a white haired boy named Felix. Robin had a rambunctious sense of humour, and was able to light up a room with his presence. When one of the little ones cried after her favourite hen died, he was able to break her out of her despair with his antics. Felix, on the other hand, was rather cheeky and sly. He liked practical jokes and deception and often received the majority of Madame Bourdoux wrath. One time he set up a prank where he baited the rest of the children into thinking that he had fallen into the frigid waters of the river, causing a commotion. All the while he was watching nearby, giggling with glee. The two boys managed to drag the usually responsible Virginia into all sorts of mischief.
Madame Bourdoux was also very strict when it came to their development. A strong culture of work and study was instilled in them even as toddlers. Physical exercises which pushed them to their limit every day. A variety of puzzles and testing strengthened their brains. A thorough education of sciences and literature gave them knowledge on how the world worked. Lastly, an importance was placed on history and politics, teaching the children about the complex ecosystem of how the world came to be and how it aligned with the morals of the Revolutionary Army. Although the kids were cordoned off from the rest of the world, they came to understand it much better than most of those on the outside. But this came through the tint of the viewpoint of the revolutionaries, biases and all.
On most accounts, Bourdoux was a fair caretaker, there was always a competitive tension during their development due to the kids wanting to win her favour. She was the only adult which they knew, and the children worked hard to impress her. Knowing well what their future would be, Bourdoux showed unequal love toward the children who ended up excelling at the particular task at hand. The way the kids responded to this environment shaped their personalities. Robin ended up becoming easy going and jovial to disperse the tension, while Felix used his pranks to draw negative attention to replace the lack of the positive variant. Both of the boys seemed not to care too much about their tests, but when it came down to it, they tried harder than anyone.
Anyone except Virginia. Early on, she was Madame Bourdoux's favourite. Seeing the caretaker's smile and hearing the words 'My little Jinny' after she pleased her was enough to drive her to work harder than anyone else. Over time, the house began filling up. More kids came, and the competition for the sit-in mother's attention grew. No more could she monopolise the apple of her eye. The elation was replaced with insecurity. Every competition was a big deal, and she wanted to be number one. And since most things in the castle were of a competitive nature, she became an all too serious child. At times she became an insufferable mess. When losing, she would lose control of her emotions, having upset outbursts. When winning, she became boastful and domineering. These traits only ended up creating distance between her and Madame Bourdoux. But her thirst for winning drove her to become one of the most talented of the children, along with her friends Robin and Felix.
As the three of them grew up, their personalities tempered. Madame Bourdoux reinforced the seriousness of the problems on the outside, and the responsibilities they would soon have. Physical testing increased in depth and scope. Combat training began. Unarmed wrestling and fighting, swordplay and even low calibre firearms were taught to them as pre-teens. Their heads were filled with more knowledge of the world than the average encyclopedia. Their faculties were sharper and more expansive than the average adult.
And then it came time. The time to leave came as a shock, even though they knew it was coming. At the age of twelve, it was no longer a good idea for them to be shielded from the outside world. They needed to see it for themselves otherwise they would be forever stunted. It was possible that they would be hunted when they left, but Chateau de Gelure was not a prison, it was a nest. It was time to take the plunge. After a sea of tears were cried and a hundred hugs were given, Jinny, Robin and Felix were shipped off to three different Blues to serve under the revolutionary forces that were budding there.
Project InkstormIt was not long after Virginia arrived in the North Blue that Project Inkstorm began. This project was the singular most important undertaking that the Revolutionary Army stationed in this blue had undertaken since it's inception. It would take them all of nine years, but at the end of it, they had achieved their primary goal. This goal was the secret ownership and control of the World Economic Newspaper. The importance of this undertaking could not have been overstated. To control the news was to control the hearts and minds of the people, or at least, that is what they hoped for.
Captain Edith Kane rules the northern roost in the Revolutionary Army. Though she is no great fighter, her icy temperament fits the scenery of the north. She is a patient and reserved woman, who is slow to act. Not through fear or ineptitude, but values underplaying her hand. The preparation for Project Paper Crane had been a decade in the making, but not a single day had she let her eye off the ball. At one point, she had intelligence that there was going to be a raid on a secondary base of the army. She had an option to send her available forces in to save her comrades. Instead, she gave them up, like a chess player sacrificing a pawn. It was an understandably divisive choice which spread uncertainty in the ranks. Even so, she didn't waver. When asked about her actions, she replied: "Taking proactive action against the attack would have lead the marines to realise that we have been intercepting their transmissions. We cannot lose this backdoor into their comms if we are to achieve our goals." With this calculated risk, she bet that Project Inkstorm would work out. With its success, she strengthened the Army's faith in her.
Karl Mandible quickly became the main player in Project Inkstorm. This was by being the new chairman and public face of the newspaper company. He put himself forth once he saw that no one else was up to the job. His origin and motives are unknown to most of his comrades but he has proven one of the most trustworthy allies of the Revolutionary Army. He had been a backer of the Army for a long time preceding his involvement in Inkstorm, funnelling a small fortune of his own funds into the Army. It is recognised by Edith Kane and many other high ups that the project wouldn't be possible without his resources or talent. When the Army took to unseating the Baggins family from their own company, they needed Karl to fill the void. The man who could only be described as gaunt to the point of looking like he was ill took the reigns. He now manages the company by day, plays the necessary politics with the World Government in the evening, and reports to the Army at night. Even though he has not officially joined the Army as a ranking officer, he is now considered second only in rank to Edith.
Crystal Dewdrop is the Senior Technical Officer and the third important member of the North Blue Revolutionary Army leadership. While the dwarf has no leadership chops at all, she makes up for it by being superbly brilliant at her technological crafts. Her knowledge is several scientific breakthroughs ahead of the current age of cannon and cutlass. She is responsible for the force being able to stand toe to toe with the World Government forces on the science front. She is in fact a refugee of the Special Science Group, and escaped the group when she saw how her work was being used for all sorts of inhumane purposes by the World Government.
The majority of Jinny's career life was spent on this project, and by its end, she had contributed to it greatly. This netted her a lot of prestige among the Army and ranks to go with it. However, first we should look back and see how this came to be.
Teenager in the NorthThe girl arrived in the north after a long boat ride, and was ushered into the main headquarters without much of a greeting. This was no adoptive family that she was going to live with now. The cold professionalism of Captain Kane's hospitality gave a stark contrast to the warmth of the home she had just left. A tight bunk in a small grey room was her living quarters now. For the next few years, the girl would search for something to replace the loss of love in her life but she wouldn't find it.
It was a culture shock to say the least. She came from a place where she knew twenty or so people, all of which bar one were kids. The world was much bigger on the outside of that mountain. She knew a lot about it from books and classes but seeing it for herself would take some getting used to. It was like being born again. The Revolutionary Headquarters was a no-fun zone and there were no other children there. Surrounded by adults in a military style base, she had some quick growing up to do.
Edith received her with an unobvious curiosity, like a card collecter unpacking a new powerful addition to her set. Of course she had been informed on Project Frostbite and of the young girl's development, but was dubious at first as to her value. It quickly became clear to Jinny that her commanding officer was the one that she needed to impress now, and she quickly transferred her behaviours from Madame Bourdoux onto Captain Kane. However it was clear to everyone else that Edith wasn't interested in playing a mother figure, Virginia did what she could with what she had. The girl's wants and the Captain's attention were a round peg in a square hole.
Still, she got more attention than the average revolutionary soldier. This was because Edith was invested in her development. It wasn't long before Jinny showed that she was as at least as competent as the average grunt, even at twelve. She was an extremely quick learner and could follow complex orders and tasks to the dot. These early trials were cakewalks compared to the rigorous testing that took place in Chateau de Gelure. When it came to combat practice, none of the grunts could match her in strength or technique, and were far behind on speed.
It wasn't long until Project Inkstorm commenced. Jinny took part, but the captain did not let her leave the base. She instead assigned her to the command centre where she served whoever needed help at the time. Her mental flexibility and quick wit made Edith keen on having her work with communications, decoding encrypted messages and charting the complex geography for those in the field. The Soldiers on the front line came to know the little voice call from the other side of the den-den mushi, much too precise and serious for a normal girl her age.
This is how her first few years in the Army went. After work, she was sent to train in the barracks, sent into duels against the sergeants who had orders not to pull their punches against the teen. At first they were hesitant, but after showing her unwavering spirit after taking painful blows, this routine became the norm. Afterwards, she would show up for her nightshift. She returned to her work, occasionally wincing when putting weight on her bruised body.
She slowly began to develop relationships with the Army members. Crystal Dewdrop was the easiest to get along with. Always cheerful, she brought a pleasant balance to the command centre whenever she visited. Compared to the other two major leaders, who were two peas in a pod when it came to humourlessness, everyone in the Army agreed that Crystal was a godsend. Karl Mandible never paid much attention to Jinny. He only seemed to notice those who aided in furthering his, and by extension, the Army's, goals.
Edith was the one that Jinny wanted to bond with the most. The brief "Good job." That she received from the captain at the end of a fourteen hour workday was enough to sustain herself through the next one. Over the years, she became enamoured with the older woman. Her strength of character and the respect that everyone paid her. In Jinny's mind, this is what success looked like. To be, without a doubt, the strongest. Not necessarily in physical strength, but in status and mental fortitude. She did what she needed to. It was all for the win. When challenges to her leadership came up within the Army, she crushed them without hesitation, retaliating against the adversary without remorse. Before long, Jinny began unconsciously modelling herself after her in admiration.
Sometime after she turned fourteen, Edith Kane promoted her to mission coordinator. While she didn't have experience herself, her keen intellect was already accruing wisdom just by watching events play around her. As coordinator, she took the mission brief laid out by her superiors and prepared her team for it. She would then supervise them during the execution of the mission, connecting the soldiers to the command centre and relaying comms whenever they were needed. When it came time for snap decisions, she was authorised to take charge. Early on, Edith was by her side but that crutch was soon taken away upon proving her competence.
Virginia grew into her position quickly. Watching and working with the agents day in and day out, she became invested in the goings on in the North Blue, and the stakes that the Army were fighting for. She began pestering Edith to let her take to the field herself. The leader thought her much too young and valuable to send out to the front lines this early. However, she would get her chance thanks to the high manpower costs of Project Inkstorm. The legacy of Aigis 0 Director Nimitz was still alive and well in the North Blue, and the Cipher Pol forces were still well regarded and well funded. They were the biggest threat to the success of the project and it quickly became apparent that the Army needed their own card to play. Thus, Project Spiritstep began, with Jinny as part of the first intake of recruits.
Project SpiritstepProject Spiritstep involved the development of a sophisticated counterintelligence division. Even among the already secretive Revolutionary Army, they were hard to pin down to an even greater degree. Even within the Army, knowledge of the project was only known to those of a high security clearance. The selected candidates were the best and brightest that the north had to offer and they were trained over the next five years before they were considered fully fledged spies.
There were three main focuses of the Spiritstep training regime. The first was of protocol and team building. This covered the entire division playbook. How best to accomplish tasks of various types. Hostage situations. Explosives threats. Encryption and decryption. Infiltration and surveillance. If there was a possibility that the Spirit Division would encounter the scenario, it was taught. The team learned the protocol together, who would do what, and what would happen if complications were to arise. Jinny drank in all the information without a problem. She was able to repeat the protocol word for word, even if it had been years since hearing it.
The second focus was that of the unique fighting style of the Spirit Division. Being a derivative of Six Powers, Rokusheishin was the martial art that they learned, translating to 'six spirits'. This way, not only did the agents learn an effective style for their job, but also learned about their enemy's combat style and how to best counter it. Much like the elite members of Cipher Pol, Virginia found that she could adapt the six core principles into a fighting style that was more suited to her tastes. As expected, she excelled in this too, first beating her team leader at the age of seventeen.
The six skills of Rokusheishin are as follows.
- Nail Shot. A barrage of wind projectiles the size of a bullet fired from silent flicks of the finger. Derives from both finger pistol and tempest kick. Made to have a quiet method of ranged combat. Mimics the feeling and wound of a bullet for added deception.
2. Moon Waltz. A fluid and lightning quick movement of the body which creates a powerful resultant force, propelling the user's body in the opposite direction extremely quickly. Derives from both moon walk and shave. Made to have a fast method of movement that can keep up with shave and moonwalk. Handy for agents to traverse a high security environment without detection. - Moon Waltz. A fluid and lightning quick movement of the body which creates a powerful resultant force, propelling the user's body in the opposite direction extremely quickly. Derives from both moon walk and shave. Made to have a fast method of movement that can keep up with shave and moonwalk. Can be applied on specific parts of the body for creative attacks. Handy for agents to traverse a high security environment without detection.
- Serpent Art. An extremely flexible and fluid motion meant to grapple and entangle or to escape in a similar way. Derived from paper art. Made to combat close quarters six powers fighters by fluidly avoiding aggression and sliding into a grapple or take down. Also used to disengage from close combat or even slip out of restraints by jellifying the body. Users could apply this to a patrolling guard to silently take them down.
- Sponge Body. A heightened state of relaxation to bring forth a supernatural body state that absorbs shock and endure pain. Derived from iron body. While iron body hardens the body, sponge body softens it. Due to the human instinct to tense up when anticipating an impact, the brain induces unconsciousness so that the body will go limp, which helps it absorb shock. This skill takes it to the superhuman extreme while remaining conscious. Used to soften blows from unavoidable attacks, decreasing harm and reducing pain.
- Tempest Push. A push that sends out a wave of air, capable of diverting mass and causing blunt force damage. Derived from tempest kick. Primarily designed for defence, the tempest push can be used to ward off attacks that you don't want to touch, such as fire, or create distance between you and an enemy. On offence, it can be used like a blunt impact, rather than the sharp tempest kick.
- Iron Hammer. A strike from a hardened body part using unnatural and unpredictable movement. Derived from iron body and moon walk. The user gains quick acceleration by applying a similar technique as moon walk to a specific part of the body, swinging the body part and striking with it while hardening it with a technique similar to iron body. Used to catch an opponent off guard by quickly articulating your body into an attack which can smash through defences with ease. Users could use this for causing massive damage to structures or environment.
It is theoretically possible for a seventh skill to be learned which is derived from rokuogan. It has not been invented due to the newness of the martial art.
While the girl stood out from the rest with the first two, it was the third focus where she truly shone. It was in the art of subterfuge. Deception and trickery of all kinds. Maybe it was all that mayhem that she had been dragged into with Robin and Felix back at the chateau, but she found she had a knack for all the small things that made her excel at her job as a spy. Her body was only so strong so she was limited in physical potential that she could feed into learning Rokusheishin. She was limited in the amount of content there was to learn in terms of protocol. But for the art of subterfuge, there seemed to be an unlimited number of ways that she could apply her creativity and wit.
She took to subterfuge like a fish to water. Using every available moment to further herself, she incorporated the art into her daily activities in a sometimes annoying fashion. In the beginning, she would play little games like inventing a new character to play as that day. Making up a backstory and personality and acting out as she thought that person would be. Truly devoting herself to the act became rather annoying for Kane and the other leaders. Showing up to training with a different wig, complexion and accent provided a quirky outlet for her ambitious work ethic. After a year, her personas became solid and quite believable. Upon meeting new people, they were unable to recognise that she was playing a part.
Later on, her antics became more troubling. Whenever she found a reason to go for a walkabout, whether it be boredom or a hormone fueled strop, she would disappear from her quarters to see if she could sneak past her superiors' keen senses. She would play small pranks on them, such as moving objects around their rooms and put them in strange locations. Sometimes the antics got more insidious, with her laying what she would call 'harmless' traps. One such trap involved taping a small battery to the underside of a coffee mug handle, delivering a little zap which was just enough to get the victim to spill their coffee. These antics were a signal to Kane that she was growing older and more rebellious, but also that she needed to apply her energy in more productive and less annoying ways. So she okayed the fifteen year old to go on her first mission.
Lieutenant Andre Fields a.k.a. "Grey" was the head of the project and became Jinny's team leader. He was a gentle man, which sometimes seemed rather out of place in an army. Experience was this man's greatest appeal as a leader and had been in the Army for his whole life. As Jinny grew older, she came to clash with him a lot. The high pressure environment combined with teenage angst became quite the molotov cocktail at times. Luckily, Fields was patient and would downplay her antics when reporting them to Edith Kane so as to shield her from repercussions. The girl didn't agree with his softness, even finding a reason not to appreciate his patience. She wished that there were more consequences, not less. She favoured Captain Kane's leadership style much more. As Jinny grew more adept, she questioned her superior's competence more and more. This dynamic was exacerbated by Jinny's strength, which overtook her superior's by the time her adulthood came around.
Agent Clive McMahon a.k.a. "Blue" had joined the project at its inception. He was one of the bedrocks of the force, and probably the Lieutenant's most trusted agent. He was named deputy by Fields and held that position until his death three years later. He was a confident and boastful man, his death was a result of him overplaying his hand while in enemy territory. After his death, the vice-captaincy fell to Jinny.
Agent Christine McMahon a.k.a. "Yellow" is one of the youngest, best and brightest in the northern Revolutionary Army. She was inducted into the Spirit Division after hearing of her brother Clive's fate and hoped to serve justice to his killers. Unfortunately for the young agent, there was someone slightly older and more competent in the division already. In every way, she was outshone by Jinny. She did not put much value in this though, still remaining hard working and devout to the Army.
Agent Nikolaj Kozak a.k.a. "Red" joined the division on request of Fields wanting some technical expertise on the team. Instead of his training in the Art of Subterfuge, he was taught by Crystal Dewdrop in all things technologically based. Bringing this talent pool to the fields gave the team a larger scope of options on mission. Niko himself is a hard case, his humour just as caustic as the substances he puts into his body.
Agent Sofia Fors a.k.a. "White" was one of the originals of Project Spiritstep. Born of rich Viking heritage, she was taught and trained at a young age in the ways of wayfaring. She serves as a navigator and tracker for the team. She keeps to herself most of the time, leaving room for the other strong personalities in the division to suck up the oxygen.
These four, along with Jinny a.k.a. "Green", consists of the A team or 'graduated' agents which take on the pivotal tasks assigned to the Spirit Division.
Meddling with VikingsVirginia would finally get her chance to take to the field a year after her induction into the Spirit Division. Still being careful, the captain would only let her take part as reconnaissance. It was to observe the comings and goings of the World Government in the kingdom of Gilbart. The relationship between the two was on thin ice due to the disappearance of the princess. Having a threat of that magnitude pointed toward their enemy was a great advantage. The Army hoped that this relationship was only going to get worse.
A team consisting of Jinny, Clive McMahon and Sofia Fors was sent to Gilbart to watch over the crucial weeks as the situation first unfolded. Clive was sent in deep, taking up a position as a store assistant in the port of the capital city, while Jinny and Sofia were sent up the surrounding mountains to get a high vantage point. Here they watched the comings and goings of the World Government from the city and tried to gauge things as best they could.
Two weeks passed in the freezing deep north. Sofia was amazed at how well Jinny's body held up to the intense weather and terrain. She didn't complain once. After all, she was used to the cold after growing up in Chateau de Gelure. One day, the girl was left atop a mountain peak while Sofia left for a few days to resupply at their hidden campsite at the bottom of the mountain. Her job was simple. Sit in her insulated sleeping bag, watch the city through a telescope and report back any points of interest through her den-den mushi. Comms were fed back to the command centre, and replies were sent back to the field agents.
After two days alone, Virginia spotted a World Government ship surrounded by a small fleet of battleships arrive in the port. she reported what she saw and an opportunity for action came to light. This was an appeasement visit from a top official. The World Government aimed to quell the king's anger with this diplomacy mission garnished with a trove of fine treasure.
Clive flew into action while the crew was unloading. He snuck on board, incapacitated the treasure guard and lay him down like he was having a snooze on duty, and hid an explosives device inside the chest. As cocky as ever, the plant went off without a hitch. The explosive was never detonated, but it was discovered by the Gilbartan Court. Despite the pleading of the World Government dignitaries, they were thrown out of the city.
Without reporting his intentions, the male agent did more. As the ships were leaving the port, he snuck on a viking ship and managed to fire a cannon shot at one of the battleships before escaping unseen. The action upped the tension instantly, wondering what was going to happen next. War was so close to breaking out. Instead, the World Government decided to leave, choosing peace. The Revolutionaries had achieved their goal in destabilising the relationship further.
Agent McMahon was able to return to base as the cock of the walk, and swaggered straight into Leutenant Fields' office where he lost half of his hearing ability from his yelling. However Jinny was not so lucky.
A Gilbartian patrol advanced unknowingly on her position. A shot of straight bad luck that they happened to come directly to where she was. Thankfully, laying in her entrenched position for days while it was snowing had made her meld into the bank and hid her well. However things went from bad to worse as the patrol party picked that very spot to set up camp for the next few days. The girl managed to cover herself and curl up deep inside the snowbank. The patrol stayed no more than five metres away from her for those next few days.
It was a difficult time to say the least. The girl's strength of mind was put to the test. The first thing that she did was crush the head of her den-den mushi before they settled so that it would not suddenly start ringing. She couldn't move a muscle, let alone eat or drink. Laying there, face down with a small hole to breathe. She licked at the ice to get a bit of water. However she wouldn't let herself fall asleep. It was much too dangerous as she might move and give herself away.
On the last day, she was delirious from lack of sleep. She couldn't tell if she was dreaming or not. Sometimes she would forget why she was even there before snapping back. Constant cramp seized her muscles. Melting snow had made its way inside her sleeping bag and her etremities were numb. Finally, after eighty or so hours of being awake, she passed out. When she awoke, the patrol was gone.
A burst of endorphins came from finally being able to eat, drink and stretch, but they were soon overcome by the reality that she was cold, without a way to contact her companions, and in the middle of a snowstorm. She didn't know how to give up or despair. At the age of fifteen, she got to trekking down the mountain toward the basecamp. She would finally be reunited with Agent Fors in a ragged state. The Viking would report to her superiors how miraculous it was that she was able to find her way back. Climbing an unfamiliar mountain in the middle of a storm was dangerous enough. Being in such a bad state of health with barely any supplies was even worse. Still, this trial did not dull her ambition for fieldwork.
Contributions to InkstormAs time progressed, Virginia's responsibilities grew, and so did the intensity of her missions. She was beginning to become a woman and wanted to shed her child-like nickname and instead be called "Jin". In the field, she donned her wig and makeup, doing her best to fill out the persona of "Green" as best she could. It was just a codename that they were each given, but like everything else, the girl took it much too seriously. Not only that, but it was a chance to become someone else. Someone that she wanted to be. She channelled what she thought to be "cool and in control", which ended up bearing many of the mannerisms that she had noticed of Captain Edith Kane. At first it was acting, but through improving her effectiveness in the field, the persona became a real side of her. Green was just as real as Jin was.
Project Inkstorm was the main focus of her work until its completion which took her about five years. The whole timeline from the Baggins family running the company to Karl Mandible's takeover was full of Jin's meddlings. At first it was raiding a safe to replace contracts with altered copies. Slipping into secure premises was easy enough, applying her training to forge the documents to be indistinguishable from the originals except in a few chosen ways was harder. But her sharp wit and rigorous practice made the end product perfect.
Then it was planting false telegraphs between board members to get them to suspect that each other were trying to take over the company. Jin learned a lot about deception and human nature during the few years that she had this goal. Watching how easy it was to plant the smallest seed in the mind of these money hungry sociopaths and watch them turn on each other. The company politics turned men into merciless wolves chasing prey or rats squealing for survival. She found that she didn't even need to plant evidence in many cases, if she screwed with them in some hidden way, they would jump to accuse their rivals. Destroying the whole house of cards was as easy as removing one card at the base.
Then it was slipping substance into Mr Baggins' tea to alter his mental state and make him appear unreliable during the crisis. The great leader who everyone turned to to be able to sort out the drama and issues. The one with executive power that had the duty to prune and fertilise the company as necessary. However he was slowly becoming distant and detached thanks to the slowly increasing ratio of special herb to tea leaf in his tea.
Then it was bribing a board member to suggest Karl Mandible as the new leader of the company. Karl was a master at his own art. After all, he had successful businesses of his own and was one of the more wealthy commoners in the north. It was natural that he should take charge once he invested his own money in the business amidst the crisis. Jin learned a lot from Karl. She took direction in targeting which people were weakest and in what ways. Karl became one of the major players, even in a short time.
Finally, Jin managed to get Mr Baggins convicted of murdering Karl's biggest rival in the company. This was the last nail in the coffin. It was a masterpiece of subterfuge. All that Jin had learned up to this point came down to this act. On his normal routine, Mr Baggins walked down to the company office, into the ground floor and said hello to Mr Mandible and the receptionist before walking upstairs to his office. He heard a shout and a crash, and quickly rushed toward his office. He turned the door handle of his office and stepped inside. There he found the underside of the door handle was coated in blood, which was now applied to his fingers. He found the most important person on his board, laying dead on the ground with Mr Baggins' letter opener protruding from his chest. The letter opener had two bloody fingerprints on them which matched the two that he had left on his coffee cup the day before. On the desk were legitimate documents for ousting Mr Baggins from the CEO position and replacing him with a joint leadership of the victim and Mr Mandible. A nice and convenient motive that Karl had prepared earlier.
Before Mr Baggins could think to do anything about this, the receptionist burst through the door and saw the scene. A few minutes later, a couple of marines arrived in the office with Mr Mandible and they arrested the framed man. You see, after Mr Baggins had said hello and began climbing the stairs, Karl and the receptionist heard some shouting and a crashing thump above them. With the receptionist alarmed, Karl exclaimed that someone must have had an accident and sent the receptionist upstairs to witness the scene while he went outside and called the marines. What they really heard upstairs, was Jin murdering the board member and slipping out in the few seconds that Mr Baggins took to climb the stairs.
It was open and shut. No one else had been seen going upstairs by the receptionist except Mr Baggins and the dead guy. He had a motive, and was the only one who could possibly perform the crime. Its not like some supernatural spy killed him then flew away, was it? And Karl had an airtight alibi, so he was safe. With no one else that could lead the company, Karl gladly stepped up and took the reins. And with that, the World Economic Newspaper was in the hands of the Revolutionary Army.
Tooth and NailAbout two years before the end of Project Inkstorm, one of the revolutionaries was captured and taken prisoner by the marines. Thankfully his affiliation was not discovered. Kane gave the order for the Spirit Division to launch a rescue mission. Agents Clive McMahon, Nikolaj Kosak and the nineteen year old Virginia Walker were sent into the field. The mission was very simple. Disguise yourselves as pirates from Billy Boar's crew and hit the jail hard and fast. They weren't bringing an army, as the mission wasn't to fight every guard on the premesis. The manpower was not worth the risk for one soldier, but in theory three highly trained operatives would be able to get in and out with minimal engagements.
It was going well. The three of them rushed the jail complex, using their Serpent Art to silently take down guards and Moon Waltz to dash past others. It took them a minute at most to make it to the main holding cells where finally the sirens began to blare. Here is where the main difficulty would come. As the best saboteur on the team, Virginia went straight to work picking the locks on each of the cells. With a quick flick of the wrist, she bypassed the sturdy steel bars and let the prisoners free. Meanwhile, Agent McMahon whipped the inmates into a frenzy. He yelled at them to go wild in the name of Emperor Jolly Rabbit. He told them that in exchange for their freedom that they would be indebted to the mink pirate Billy Boar. Of course, this was just a cover for getting their man out.
Guards piled into the cellblock, which were quickly dealt to by a barrage of McMahon's Nail Shots. He bellowed in laughter, all to comfortable in the guise of a pirate. Kosak took the rescued soldier and began making for the exit. The prisoners piled out, chanting Jolly Rabbit's name and began making for the exit, too. It was up to Clive and Jin to bring up the rear. They did well, incapacitating every enemy that they came across with blinding speed. That is until they ran into a marine patrol that was coming to reinforce the jail. Kosak was on the way out to extraction, and Jin wanted to leave as well. Some of the prisoners ran to engage the marines in a frenzy. That was good, the distraction is why they had released them in the first place.
However, upon seeing the prisoners get sliced through so quickly, McMahon made the decision to stand and fight. It was a decision fueled by his overconfidence and it would ultimately bring about his death. Jin was too late to react, he had thrown himself at the two dozen well trained marines. With the force of a battering ram, he smashed into the enemy, toppling them with a double palm tempest push. There he stood as blades and bullets flew his way, darting in and out of range to deliver blows while covering himself. It was a tremendous dance, but he was overcome by the power and numbers. Virginia had done her best to reach him, but she was a metre away when he received a blade through his heart.
He coughed, splattering blood on her face. The shock of pain finally shattering his ego. His eyes went wide and he slumped to the floor. It was too late for Virginia to withdraw, she had just dashed into the middle of the fight. Surrounded, she had nothing left to do except stand her ground. If these had been normal grunts, she could have just escaped. But no normal grunts could have dealt to Agent McMahon.
There were about eighteen left, all armed with rifles and blades. They slowly began circling around her, aiming to reduce the space and take advantage of their numbers. So she took the initiative. She rushed forward and then Moon Waltzed sideways with a push of her hand, feinting an attack while targeting someone else. Serpent art let her curl around her target's limbs and wrench his body around so that it would take the blade aimed at her back. Unravelling from the now dead man, she kicked the ankles of the attacker and spread her stance low, blasting a wall of air at his centre of mass and sending him flying into his comrades. This action had left her a bit of room, where she opened up both hands and began flicking Nail Shot after Nail shot into those around her.
Killing people had been something of a tough barrier to overcome. She could remember back at the chateau, the slaughtering of the farm animals which she had befriended upset her a lot. This was something that Madame Bourdoux chastised her for. That was their purpose, to die so that they could eat. Upset at herself for failure, Virginia took it upon herself to slaughter a pig herself. She could still hear the terrified screeching as she plunged the knife into its neck. The panicked stabbing as she missed the vital and tried again. The river of warm red which coated her hands and skirt. And finally the emptiness of death. It was a brutal way to desensitise yourself to killing, but it worked. Once she became a field agent, she applied the same method to people.
The fight was tough. It would continue until all but three marines would remain, their bodies broken and their spirits crushed. Jin herself had been pushed to the limit, half a dozen gashes over he body and bullets lodged into her forearm and lower back. Thanks to Sponge Body, they had failed to make a life threatening wound. She panted and bent over double. If there was even a couple more, she would have lost her life. With the fight all but finished, she stepped toward the last few marines with the intention to kill the witnesses. However, about a hundred metres away, she spotted more reinforcements coming. She didn't have the energy to fight any more and she would need the headstart to escape. Instead she gave one last glare at her adversaries, picked up the body of the dead agent and fled.
She had made quite the impression on those last few marines. Named Sully, Kobric and Daniels, the three marines later enrolled in Cipher Pol 1. They set their sights on avenging their comrades by bringing the green haired woman to justice.
And to the FutureWith these feats, Virginia gained a lot of notoriety within the Army. Her talents had been put to the test, and that test had been aced. Her superiors held her in high regard, but Kane still thought her a bit too young to handle a leadership position. This was a sentiment that aggravated Jin immensely. She couldn't help but compare herself to those around her. It was like competing for Madame Bourdoux's love all over again except she had reached a limit that she couldn't seem to pass.
So this is where she is at right now. Not knowing what more she can achieve, she still works hard to outdo herself wherever she can. After all, the only competition she had around here anymore is herself. In contrast, the Army still has a lot to achieve. Project Inkstorm was a major victory, but it is a mere morsel compared to the feast which represents the true goals of the Army.
Where to from here? Well, there are two main objectives in which Captain Kane has set her eyes on currently. First of all, she wishes to expand the Army and its capabilities. It is still a small force in the north, and lacks resources. Specifically, she would like to get her hands on transportation, logistics and supply channels to fund her future wars.
The second objective is a lot more... Volatile. This is the exploitation of the tensions between the Gilbart Kingdom. A war could do a lot of good if used correctly. However, there's still plenty of preparation to be done before the Army can start making moves in that direction. Having control of the newspaper is one thing that will make it possible.
Sprouting SeedsWhile Jin is trying to find her place in the world, her long lost brothers are also having their own adventures. As if by synchronicity, Robin and Felix are both doing well in their respective blues. Both have become major players in the Revolutionary Army as well. It seems as though the Seeds of Rebellion are starting to grow into a forest.
Felix was sent to the East Blue. The mischievous kid grew up into a responsible and morally righteous man. As well as being a wicked combatant, he championed the ideals of the Revolutionary Army with a chivalrous code. This code was in part fed by the actions and culture cultivated by Admiral Cross. Felix respected him as an enemy, and regarded him highly, even though he was the symbol of the thing he wished to destroy. Even during bouts of aggression, the two sides stuck to a code of warfare. No means that would cause significant harm to the populous, nor any weapons which would torture the enemy such as gas. If soldiers were captured, they were treated well and traded back. This caused an interesting dynamic for the Army, and to this day the Revolutionary Army is considered more of an extremist political faction in the East Blue rather than terrorists.
Robin was sent to the West Blue. Unfortunately, he didn't have such great luck with his time there. The jovial youngster was doing well just like his friends were, up until the point where the Army headquarters was raided by the marines. Taking the youngster as a prisoner, he suffered brutal torture at the hands of the World Government. It was a whole month of day after day of endless cruel interrogation before he was rescued by the Army. When the boy was saved, his nature had changed irrevocably. No longer a happy child, his eyes were dead and soulless. His skin bore the marks of the skin peeling torture. He looked like a patchwork monster, and now had the temperament to match it. He grew up with a goal of inflicting as much pain as possible to the World Government. His malice bore no mercy, and he spared no innocent civilians who were caught in the collateral.
Although the three of them had become such different people, their potential for excellence would surely bring them together again at some point. But would their goals make them allies, or would their differences make them enemies?
