SHIPS & VEHICLESIn a world composed mostly of water, ships are crucial to being able to do pretty much anything. There a five major elements of a ship. The size, speed, class, grade, and method of propulsion.
Vehicles are still a rarity in the world, but nonetheless are gaining popularity and becoming more of a usual site with the introduction of engines. Vehicles follow the same rules as ships, but typically refer transportation that is land based instead of water.
The terms Ships and Vehicles will be used interchangeably.
CLASS Class represents the quality of the craftsmanship put into a ship. The higher the Class of a ship the more leeway one has with having high parameters and customizations should the ship or vehicle be a purchase and not a craft. Class also directly gives raw HP to a Ship.
Common - The Blackbeard Pirates first ship was just a giant raft of logs, but it made do. +1 HP.
Skillful - The Going Merry and Baratie is a great example. +2 HP.
Great - Don Krieg's Ship and standard Marine Ships are examples. +3 HP.
Mighty - The Moby Dick and Thousand Sunny and good examples. +4 HP
Supreme - The Queen Mama Chanter(Big Mom's Ship) and Oro Jackson. +5 Hp.
SIZE Though there are many designs for ship frames, caravels, sloops, galleons, etc, what's important is the size. The size of a ship heavily influences its capacity, speed, and hp. A Ship's width can be equal to, but may not exceed a ship's length. Additionally a ship's height may not exceed half of the ship's length.
Very Small - An example of a Very Small ship is a rowboat.
Max Capacity: 20
HP: +1-2
Max Length: 5m
Crafting Arrangement: 1
[li]Small - An example of a Small ship is the Going Merry.
Max Capacity: 150
HP: +1-3
Max Length: 50m
[/li]
Crafting Arrangement: 2
[li]Medium - An example of a Medium ship is a standard Marine ship such as Smoker's and the Thousand Sunny.
Max Capacity: 500
HP: +3-5
Max Length: 150m
[/li]
Crafting Arrangement: 3
[li]Large - An example of a Large ship is the Red Force (Shank's current ship) and Don Krieg's Ship.
Max Capacity: 1,500
HP: +4-7
Max Length: 250m
[/li][/ul]
Crafting Arrangement: 4
[li]Very Large - An example of a Very Large ship is the Arc Maxim (Enel's Ship), Yonta Maria(Orlumbus' Ship), and Queen Mama Chanter(Big Mom's Ship).[/li]
Max Capacity: 3,000
HP: +6-10
Max Length: 500m
Crafting Arrangement: 5
[/ul]
Enormous - An example of an Enormous ship is Thriller Bark
Max Capacity: 5,000
HP: These Ships have no HP rating.
Max Length: Island sized
Crafting Arrangement: 6
[/ul] CAPACITY The capacity of a ship determines how much space it has for passengers, cargo, and artillery.
Passengers - PCs and NPCs occupy 5 Capacity each. A pack E-Rank NPCs (5 Grunts) occupy 5 Capacity.
Cargo -
Resources - Unless stated otherwise, all Materials regardless of Rank occupy 1 Capacity.
Treasure -
D - 10 Capacity
C - 25 Capacity
B - 100 Capacity
A - 250 Capacity
S - 500 Capacity
Artillery - Each piece of Artillery will have its Capacity cost included in its template
SPEED The speed of a ship determines how fast the vessel can move. Speed also effects Travel time.
Slow - Roughly moves as fast as E-D-Tier Speed & Agility
Medium - Roughly moves as fast as D-C-Tier Speed & Agility
Fast - Roughly moves as fast as C-B-Tier Speed & Agility
Quick - Roughly moves as fast as A-S-Tier Speed & Agility
PARTS Oftentimes, a ship is split into two sections, the Body and the Hull. Vehicles are typically one part, however, both Ships and Vehicles can have additional Parts added to them and also taken away from them. For example a submarine would probably be one Part. Each Part has its own HP rating based on the vessel's Class and Grade and typically serve a purpose like having paddles to propel in still water, or maybe even wings like when attached to the Going Merry to go to Skypiea.
Body - The Body of the ship is that which is above the vessel's waterline.
Hull - The Hull of the Ship is the portion of the ship the is in constant contact with the water. Coating your Hull in Seastone is often done to allow safe passage through the Calm Belt.
HP HP monitors the well-being of a ship or vehicle. The amount of HP a Ship has is derived from the Class, Size, and Grade. Parts that are recognized as conventional, standard, typical, etc like the Body and Hull each have their own HP pool that reflect the Ship's Total HP. Additional Parts that are add-ons, have their own HP Pool which is 1/2 of the Ship's HP rating. e.g. a 3 Part Ship has 10 HP Total. The Body and Hull each have 10 HP. The additional Part, the Paddles, have 5 HP. The following explains the state of a Ship and its parts when its HP is damaged.
1/2 HP - Damaged, but repairable. At 50% HP a Ship loses one Rank of Speed. e.g.Fast-> Medium. Parts would lose some of their ability to function properly and possibly cause other problems as seen with Enel's Arc Maxim when Sanji sabotaged it.
0 HP - Destroyed/sunk and cannot be salvaged or repaired.
The closer a ship comes to depleting all its HP the closer it is to sinking. The HP of a ship is taken away on a case by case basis. The more damage that is caused to the vessel the more HP it loses. Sometimes even if a ship is damaged, if the damage is insignificant, such as a cannonball hitting the figurehead, HP won't be taken away because that doesn't contribute to sinking the ship. Breaking down a mast or piercing the hull and causing water to flood are things that would cause exceptional or continuous HP damage over time. HP can be restored by repairing a ship or vehicle at anytime given the proper Function-Job Trait is used. GRADE The Grade is highest Rank of Material used to make a make a ship, E-U. For every Grade 1 HP is given to a Part of a ship/vehicle meaning E-U, 1-7 points of HP can be earned through Grade. Lastly, Grade plays a role in determining the Durability of the Ship.
Durability - Following the Doriki values seen here, the Durability is decided by the Grade and Speed of a Ship.
Slow - (Assigned Grade) Max. e.g. A+
Medium - (Assigned Grade) Avg. e.g. A
Fast & Quick - (Assigned Grade) Min. e.g. A-
TERRAIN The medium the vehicle travels on or through. Multiple can be chosen, but when choosing a nonconventional method for a vessel, such as space, land, etc it is important to explain how it is possible, typically through a Part. An example is Capone Bege's ships having deployable tank treads that enable it to move on land as well as water.
Water
Air
Underwater
Land
Subterreanean
Space
PROPULSION The means by which the vehicle moves. Propulsion can have an influence on a Ship's Speed. For example if a Ship was Man Powered, it's Speed would be reliant on the Strength of those rowing and that of the animal towing.
Sail - The most common method of propulsion which consist of using the wind caught in the sails of the vehicle to move the vessel.
"Man" Powered - Using oars to row, animals to pull, or some Devil Fruit related ability.
Paddle - Some vessels are equipped with paddles which rotate and push a vessel through still water, often used to get through the Calm Belt.
Engine - Not too common, but steam engines and other types of engines do exist and power some ships.
Air - Using propellers, hot air, etc.
ARTILLERY Artillery is the firepower of a vehicle. There are a limitless amount of types of artillery, but they will at least always fall under Light, Medium, or Heavy. With Light artillery generally costing the least amount of Capacity, Heavy artillery will often cost the most. TEMPLATES
