IC KNOWLEDGE Devil Fruits are mysterious fruits that have a strange designs and a very bitter taste. Eating one blesses and curses the user with a strange ability while stripping them of their ability to swim. A nickname for those that can’t swim springing up known as Sunken Sailor. Having a Devil Fruit and not turning it in to the World Government is illegal. Furthermore, those who are confirmed consumers of a Devil Fruit are instantly marked with a 30,000,000 Bounty at minimum.TRAITS
CHARACTER TRAITS Each character is entitled to free Character Traits upon eating a Devil Fruit. Said free Traits are things that become inherent to the character or are tied into the nature of the abilities the fruit grants the character. The following are examples.
Gomu Gomu: Blunt force immunity.
Gomu Gomu: Electricity immunity.
Gomu Gomu: User can passively stretch up to 5m.(Lvl. 1)
Magu Magu: Due to high heat of magma +30% Devil Fruit Doriki to all magma attacks.(Lvl. 1)
Mera Mera: Due to high heat of fire +20% Devil Fruit Doriki to all fire attacks.(Lvl. 1)
Goro Goro: Lightning attacks and logia form travel +30% Speed & Agility Doriki.(Lvl. 1)
Pika Pika: Light attacks and logia form travel gains +30% Speed & Agility Doriki.(Lvl.1)
Note how the % increases align with the Tiers of the Fruits to begin. Tier 1: 10%. Tier 2: 20%. Tier 3: 30%. Additionally, the Traits build on the fruit's natural strengths and properties of the elements they involve.
Sunken Sailor: After consuming a Devil Fruit the consumer has lost the ability to swim or even move once submerged in water. This weakness begins once water is up to the user's waist and becomes more intense as the water level rises. From the point of the water being at their waist they can only manage to do minor actions like continue standing, talk, eat, but cannot access their abilities and they feel extremely weak and fatigued. Beyond the waist, say the bellybutton, they become completely limp and unable to move their body.
JOB TRAITS The most common use for Devil Fruits will of course be their usefulness as Proficiency and Skill+ Traits. Lets explain the differences for a clear understanding.
Proficiency: A Devil Fruit as a Proficiency Trait, sets this Devil Fruit's powers as the sole core power of a fighting style, often seen with how Logias just use their elements to battle, supplemented by nothing else. Trafalgar Law's usage of the Ope Ope also falls under this category, as does Mr. 3 Doru Doru, Trebol's Beta Beta, or Big Mom and Katakuri's respective Devil Fruits.
Skill+: As a Skill+ Trait, the Devil Fruit supports a pre-existing Proficiency Trait by augmenting of enhancing it. This is similar to how the CP Agents with Zoans like Rob Lucci used their Zoan fruits to enhance the power of their Rokushiki.
Additionally, if you want to expand the realm of your Fruit's powers and do something outside of the scope of your Fruit's typical abilities, something more specialized, or powers outside of Canon, Skill+ is the way to go. Especially in regard to Modes, Skill+ Traits embedded in Devil Fruit Proficiency Traits, will allow the users to create new base powers like Luffy's Bone Inflation for Gear 3rd or Blood Pumping for Gear 2nd. It could even allow for more abstract concepts like using the Soul Fruit to utilize hell fire instead of hell's chill.
WORLDLY RECEPTION Legal Users: World Government employees(Marines, CP, & Holy Army) or Nobles under the World Government are not prosecuted for having a Devil Fruit, but must report their abilities to the World Government for their records. Failure to do so warrants being discharged, marked as wanted, jailed, and/or executed.
Illegal Users: All who aren't World Government operatives, Holy Army soldiers, or Nobility and have been confirmed to have Devil Fruit powers are given a Bounty of at least 30,000,000.
Feared: Devil Fruit Users are feared by the general populace due to the insanely strange and powerful abilities gained and their evil reputation.ACQUISITION & RULES
